Property Data Automation

What kind of GIS data automation can benefit a County Property Appraiser if any?  Is it true that most developers have to submit some form of electronic documentation of their surveyed land?  i understand that most survey data will not line up with hand digitized GIS data from ages past. If there was some form of automation with built-in spatial intelligence to assist a mapper to include the survey, would that not greatly improve the productivity of the county mapper?

I am very interested in creating some tools as a python toolbox and maybe convert that into some Oracle Spatial utilities for use in larger organizations.  I am of the mind set that if a solid base line dataset can be made available and agreed upon by the local agency then why couldn't a system accept geometry from nearly any GIS source and perform spatial tests based on the agency's business rules to assist in the keeping the tax information up-to-date.

Just a thought and something I am actually working on for a state agency.  I will keep thinking out loud until something sticks...

Ideal Mapping Merchandise -- Open for business

Ideal Mapping, Inc. has opened its doors very early to the ways of merchandising. Feel free to quickly glance at the eStore: http://www.cafepress.com/idealmapping.

This is just the beginning as the only items available will display out logo. It is anticipated that other GIS graphics and royalty free antics will be added for every geographer and cartographer alike.

Possible Fictional Mapping Project Sites

As a side project with some spare time, the thought crossed my mind to see if any (recent) digital data or maps existed for fictional places. After some mild internet research it was found that many cartographers, engineers and gamers alike have dottled with the idea of creating such data but found it too labor and time intensive.

I am here to say I am expecting to climb this mountain to achieve the insurmountable. I have created a list of 10 fictional locations to be considered as candidates for creating digital data for use in any modern GIS package. I am willing to accept other locations not on my list and would appreciate comments assigning your priority to see the data faster.

Fictional Mapping Project Sites:
  • Arkham
  • Hamunaptr
  • Isles of Wisdom
  • Middle-Earth
  • Oz
  • Riallaro
  • Tamoe
  • Treasure Island
  • Utopia
  • Wonderland

Just getting started on some documentation for Qgis.

Introductions

This is the first official posting on the Ideal Mapping Blog. This will be the place to make suggestions for the main site as well as posting questions or topics to be covered related to GIS and all other mapping technologies.

Here's to the bright future!
